:nice: Love it! |
| I'll do what I always do. Make up half a plan, and then just make it up as I go along, disregarding the plan altogether. | |

The rims on the YJ weren't my orignial choice, I had a set of Cyclones form RC4WD and the rims I ended up using were on my FJ Cruiser. When everything came I decided to swap rims. I think it was the right choice. I'm not much for Bling.. (ie the cyclones) I'd rather use real beadlocks & look more realistic... Before I started tearing down the YJ and preping for paint I figured I'd work on the suspension a bit more. I wanted to run the 90mm shocks I already had. Here is what I ended up doing for the top mounts... Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image You can notice the differance between the stock rear shock mounts and the front upper shock mounts that I fab'd up. I may make these out of alum. down the road. With the new taller upper shock mounts, it gives me a long travel look and performance. At some point I'll have to just tear the body down and get to painting. I also decided to fill in the holes in the roof that I drilled for the light bar, at this point I put a backing on and then I'll use body filler to finish it up. I am going to change some things on top, and put different lights on the roof rack..... Last few things left to do before painting. 1) fab up rear upper shock mounts 2) order another set of 90mm shocks 3) fill in holes in roof 4) last touches to inner wheel wells 5) tear down and get to painting! A required addition to the truck are shims for the drive line. I noticed that RC4WD finally came out with shims. Lots of people on the RC4WD Forum requested shims to fix drive line issues. Yes, The shocks in all the photo's are the 90mm shocks. I purchased them without knowing what size shocks I was going to need. With the new upper shock mounts the 90mm's will work great. I am going to make the rear upper shock mounts the same as the front and will run 90mm shocks all around. |

I am making more progress. Mounted the Traxxas reciver box and all other electronics in my rig. Posted Image Top view of all the electornics Posted Image I mounted the ESC in the back of the jeep just behind the seats. I thought it would look good if you could see the ESC when she's all complete. Posted Image Here is everything else in the rear. You shouldn't be able to see any of the electronics once the body is all together. Posted Image Here is how I mounted the seats, took the seats apart and mounted them through the bottom. Posted Image Here is how they look with the seats back together Posted Image and here is how it'll look once the driver is in the driver seat. Posted Image Finally ready for paint, everything is primed and here are the final colors the YJ will be coated with. Yellow is for the body, Sand color will be the Tan for the hard top, and Black will be the fender flares and other misc. parts. Posted Image Tamiya Yellow was WAY to bright (floresent) yellow... Had to resand, and ended up painting it Daytona Yellow. Much better. Body is only set on the frame. Paint is still drying. Once the yellow is dry, I'll paint the hard top. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Inside of jeep through front winsheild. Posted Image |

No, the yellow was Tamiya Yellow. I actually repainted the body. I was not happy with the orignial yellow finished paint job. |

Getting closer to finishing up the YJ. Body is repainted, lights are getting installed, fenders & details getting added. I still have to work on the interior, dashboard, steering wheel, interior door panels, sound system, etc... Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Headlights: Posted Image Rear running lights: Posted Image Winsheild lights: (work in progress) Posted Image Posted Image Almost ready to test the drivetrain, making progress... slow progress. I'm already attempting to decide what to do for my next build. Either a Axial SCX based YJ Brute build or I am leaning twords RC4WD's new Gelände chassis, and a Defender build. I really hate to make tough decisions. There is always the possibility of doing both.... My fiance' may not be too happy with that though..... Posted Image |
